Designing for the Light: Interior Lessons from the Andalusian Coast

Three hundred and twenty days of sunshine a year is a gift and a design brief. On the Andalusian coast, the most successful interiors treat natural light as the primary material.

Restraint over decoration

A limited palette of warm neutrals, travertine, lime plaster, pale oak, lets the changing light do the work. Heavy colour and clutter compete with the view; quiet surfaces amplify it.

Indoor and outdoor as one room

Full-height sliding glass, continuous flooring from interior to terrace, and a shaded outdoor lounge extend the living space and blur the threshold. The terrace becomes the most-used room in the home.
